One-Line Bio
Displaced New Yorker returns home.
Biography
Because I am feeling a bit lazy, instead of writing a new bio, here is the one (more or less) I used several years ago when I was playing in the Musica Bella Orchestra in NYC.
So Young Park, violin, grew up in Dayton, Ohio, where her love of music started early. Although she enjoyed listening to her dad’s Elvis Costello, English Beat and The Clash albums as a child, she nonetheless turned away from a hard life as a rocker and began studying voice and classical violin at age eight. Her initial squeaky period was, by all accounts, thankfully short.
During her middle school years, she performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, placing first in numerous area competitions and becoming concertmaster of several local and regional orchestras. After receiving an academic scholarship to Mt. Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts, she was accepted into the Williams College Orchestra in the 10th grade, where she won the Berkshire Symphony Music Award. She continued playing at Vassar College where she was the university orchestra’s principal second violinist and also began her love affair with jazz.
Once she moved to NYC, the bright lights, big city, and 80-hour work weeks at A&E and The History Channel kept her away from practicing like she should. Having let her classical musicianship lapse during the first several years of her career, she regained her enthusiasm after joining the Musica Bella Orchestra.
After a three-year stint as Director of E-Commerce Marketing and Strategic Initiatives at Musician's Friend and Guitar Center in a beautiful middle-of-the-mountains town called Ashland, Oregon, she became the the EVP and GM of the WEB division at PennySaverUSA in LA. She is now working at Oracle and happily back in NYC.
