Unemployment in the U.S. is now at 6.5%, its highest in 14 years, but if you want to be part of history in a good way, you might want to consider applying for a job in Washington's newest administration.
Newsweek reports that just as Barack Obama is getting a jump on filling his high-level posts, he is also taking steps to quickly fill literally thousands of lower-level roles.
You can now apply online for a "non-career" position in the Obama administration, meaning political appointments that will only last as long as Obama's job does. Find out more at Change.gov, Obama's official transition Website, run by his transition HQ in DC. First, you need to submit an Expression of Interest, and then you'll be given an email link to a more comprehensive online application.
Apparently, no one will give details on how the early applications will be reviewed or how many have been received, but if you're interested, there's no harm in sending in your form...unless, of course, you're a conspiracy theorist, but I really don't want to go there. :)
Longer term, civil servant vacancies still go through USAjobs.gov.
